Qualifications and Experience

I have a degree in Geology and Archaeology (Birmingham, 1974) and a Postgraduate Diploma in Librarianship (Ealing, 1976).

I worked as a librarian at the School of Oriental and African Studies (SOAS), London (1976-1979) and at the Institute of Development Studies (IDS), Sussex (1979-1981).

I took a break to raise a family and before becoming an indexer I undertook a number of freelance jobs, including literature searches for academics, writing abstracts of books and journal articles for
CAB Abstracts
and proofreading.

I compiled two annotated bibliographies for the World Bibliographical Series published by Clio Press: Sierra Leone (1992) and Guinea (1996).

I started indexing in 1994, initially working for Indexing Specialists, but going full-time self-employed and becoming a Fellow of the Society of Indexers in 1996.

I was a member of the Council of the Society of Indexers from 2001 to 2004, Chair of the Society’s Marketing Committee from 2002 to 2006, and a member of both the Marketing Committee and Consultative Council from 2006 to 2008.
