Fees

The fee for indexing a book will depend on several factors, such as the density of text per page, the complexity of the text, number of illustrations, whether footnotes or end notes need to be indexed, etc.

The Society of Indexers recommends a minimum rate of £20.50 per hour or approx. £2.30 per page, or £5.25 per thousand words. I use this as a starting point when negotiating a fee for the job.
